Sound Reduction Foams

foam_matress_underlays_1.jpgSound attenuation is required in many varied situations; music studios, offices, factories, domestic situations and more. Whether it's to silence a compressor, to soften background noise or to fit out a drumming room, sound reduction foams can be used.

We carry a range of products suitable for any sound-reduction need, and we are always happy to assist you in making the best selection for your particular need.

All foams will act, to some extent, as sound absorbers, especially of high frequency (squeaky, rather than deep) sounds. Factors influencing the effectiveness of sound absorbing materials are their density, thickness, surface area and how they are combined with other products.

For reducing sounds with low impedance such as drums and base music our base corner units come highly recommended.

Convoluted sound proofing foams are of a high density and large surface area, which together work to reflect, absorb and soften unwanted sound.

If attractive appearance is not an issue, flat (not convoluted) foam sheets called skins can also be effective, as well as being very economical. Skins are the tops and bottoms off the foam buns, rather like the crusts off a loaf of bread. They are usually a little uneven in appearance and less attractive than regular foam sheets. They do however, offer the most foam for your money.

Significant improvements in sound proofing can also be achieved with closed cell foams or polystyrene bonded to, or placed behind the egg crate, or other polurethane foam.

Our window sound blockout is a great way to decrease the sound volume coming through your window. This is made up with a combination of our sound reduction sheet laminated to 40mm polystyrene. The foam is cut slightly oversize to push into the window recess and stay in position. $100 per board is for a window of approximately 1 meter square. Please ring the store for a quote for your window size.
