Closed Cell Foam

Closed cell foam products are used in commercial, industrial and construction applications, and for home use too.

Closed cell foams encompass Flexible Foam, Semi-Rigid Foam and Rigid Foam types. Because of their stable, closed cell structure these products are effective thermal insulators when in sheet form. The high thermal resistance of trapped air in the foam cells makes closed cell foam sheets and boards effective barriers to transmission of heat and cold.

Flexible and Semi-Rigid Foam

Flexible and semi-rigid closed cell foams can be grouped into two main categories: Polyethylene Foams (EPE, PE and XPE), and Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA). These foams are flexible, elastic, light weight, buoyant (EPE excepted), and durable, making them useful for purposes including thermal insulation, shock, and vibration dampening and cushioning, as well as acoustic sound attenuation. See the Information Page on our Closed Cell Flexible Foams.

Rigid Foam

The family of rigid closed cell foams includes Polystyrene (both EPS and XPS), and Rigid Polyurethane (PUR). These rigid foam products are commonly used for thermal insulation applications, and are often cut to form shapes for moulds, formwork and block-outs.
